Can You Really Say Yes at Your First Bridal Appointment? Here's How You'll Know!

You've watched the TV shows. Twenty dresses, a few happy tears, and someone saying they need to "sleep on it". Meanwhile, scrolling your socials all you’re seeing are brides (some of which aren’t even real) TELLING you, you must try on X amount of dresses in Y amount of time and NEVER make a decision there and then. So when you book your first appointment, a little voice wonders: what if it's the first dress I try? Is that allowed?

Bel Air by Jane Hill

Well the simple answer is - yes, of course it is. If that’s what feels right for you. It doesn't happen for every bride, but you’d be surprised how many brides fall in love with, and ultimately purchase, the first dress they try on! And let me tell you, when it does happen, it's one of our favourite things to witness here The Aisle.

It might not be the first dress you ever try on, but committing to your dress on your first appointment is no crime. It usually just means that you’ve done your research properly. Finding the right bridal studio, with the right aesthetic, the right designers and the right vibe for your wedding is literally half the battle. Let your stylist guide you and the rest will fall into place. Don’t over complicate it.

Why we have been conditioned that Wedding Dress shopping should take forever:

Somewhere along the way, we were all taught that dress shopping should be a marathon. Try on dozens, visit five shops, and only then will you really know. But more dresses doesn’t always mean a better decision. Often they mean more doubt, more opinions and a lot more decision fatigue. It’s overwhelming, tiring travelling the length and breadth of the country and not to mention, expensive. Coordinating with all your guests at how, when and where they need to be at your next bridal appointment, nobody wants to start out with bridezilla vibes. It’s fine to be thorough, it’s fine to even be indecisive, but trust your stylist, trust the process and we will make sure that you feel confident and comfortable to say yes to your dress. If your dress is truly here, it’s ok to be excited, it’s ok to get that fuzzy feeling, it’s ok to start letting the fantasy come true. You have our full permission to say yes.

At The Aisle, every dress on the rails has been handpicked with the modern bride in mind, so you're not wading through hundreds of options. That's why a private, 90-minute appointment with your own stylist is often all it takes to see clearly. You aren’t fighting with trains, you aren’t looking through a sea of white. We’ve already helped you narrow down the best options for you before you even go up to the fitting room. As we go through your choices one by one, we’ll look to narrow down to your top two dresses before we begin accessorising. There’s always a method in the madness!

How you'll know it's the one

Everyone's moment looks a little different, but there are some signs to look out for:

  • You don't want to take it off.

  • You’re already giving it a test run. This includes walking around the fitting room, holding our flower bouquets, dancing with the train up and sitting down in it.

  • You keep coming back to it in your mind, even after you've tried other dresses.

  • It feels like you, rather than a costume you're trying on.

  • You can picture your whole day in it, from the first look to the last dance.

  • It works with your budget, your venue and your date.

That last one matters. A dress you adore and can happily commit to is the goal, and your stylist will help you work through the practical side, too.

The "sleep on it" pressure

There's nothing wrong with wanting a night to think. But it's worth asking yourself why. Are you unsure about the dress, or are you nervous about the decision? Or is there a voice in the room that isn't quite your own?

It really helps to choose your appointment guests carefully. Bring two or three people who know your style and who will be honest, kind and happy for you. Agree beforehand that the final decision is yours. Let your stylist do the final touches and trust in our team of experts, this day is yours.

How to come prepared

We will never rush or pressure you, and we don't want you to feel like you have to say yes. But if you do fall in love, we want you to feel confident enough to say it. A little preparation goes a long way:

  • Have a budget in mind before you arrive.

  • Know your wedding date and have your venue booked already. This is essential. Our standard lead time is 6 to 8 months, otherwise you’re looking at more expensive rush orders before you’ve even begun.

  • Have a think about your venue’s aesthetic , the season and the feel of your day.

  • Browse our designer collections online first, so you know our style is right for you.

  • Keep an open mind. The dress you fall for may not be the one you pinned. (Hint- that often happens and it is completely ok to let it go!)

  • Remember - don’t let socials and influencer culture cloud your intuition! You already know you know! Your style is your own.

And if you don't say yes?

That's completely fine, too. Your appointment is a chance to find our what feels right. We’re here to guide you on the journey.
